Ford Fairlane Ford Fairlane was produced from 1955 through 1969. The original body design was the full sized Ford body which started out as a family vehicle and slowly evolved into many different available models and body styles. The exterior paint and trim options, seemed endless with elaborate cloth woven seat covers and a rainbow of paint combinations.

Default Carb issues?

I have a 69 montego 302 2bbl. Ive done quite a bit of suspension and brake work, and built a few engines (all with new carbs) but my new project is a budget car that ive only got $300 into so far.

I managed to get it running but it spewed fuel out of the top of the carb through a small hole over the bowl. After a quick rebuild of the main part of the carb, that has all been fixed. Now it will start up just fine, but wont rev up unless I hold the choke plate almost closed.

Looking at the choke cap, it has no markings, no numbers, nothing. Im thinking it has been replaced at some point with a very cheap pull-off perhaps. Im wondering if I should bother to replace the choke pull off (only a few bucks) or if i should just cough up the $190 to get a remanufactured carb? Ive had hit and miss luck with the remans in the past, and I dont want to spend the money if I dont have to, but im ready to get working on the body work, and before I do I need this engine running in top shape!

Thanks in advance for any advice

Thanks for the input! After opening the carb it was apparent someone had been in there before me. The brass valve that the float controls looked incorrect compared to what came in the rebuilt kit, and the plug for the valve also looked incorrect and was not attatched to the float. Now all of that is connected as it should be and fuel does not come out of the top of the carb.

Is there some adjustment to the float height? I will look in the carb rebuild directions to see if I have overlooked something.

Any tips on setting the fast idle, or do you know what the timing should be off the top of your head? If not i can look it up. Thanks!
