Ford Fairlane Ford Fairlane was produced from 1955 through 1969. The original body design was the full sized Ford body which started out as a family vehicle and slowly evolved into many different available models and body styles. The exterior paint and trim options, seemed endless with elaborate cloth woven seat covers and a rainbow of paint combinations.

Question 1966 fairlane power steering

Hi Guys! I'm a newbie to the site. I was wondering if any of you could give me some info on repairing a p/s leak on my 1966 fairlane convertible?? I think the hydraulic assist cylinder needs repacked. Is this a tough job for a newbie to wrenches?? HELP !!!

Check out Dearborn Classics (Ford Ranchero, Ford Falcon, Ford Fairlane, Ford Torino, Mercury Comet, and Mercury Montego Parts Online) for the parts you need.
Or you can get rebuilt parts from someone that handles Cardone remanufactured parts.

I, too am having the same troubles with a 63 Fairlane - leaky power steering ram. I bought a seal kit from Dearborn and after some trouble, got the old seals out. I was careful to keep the old seals in the order removed and am now comparing them to the parts in the kit. The kit has more seal parts than I took out. The 62/63 shop manual of course shows the old lineup. Has there been a production change along the way, or are there some seal parts I should not use?

If the protective boot on the ram is missing or torn, contamination can damage the unit and new seals may not cure the leak. You might check on a rebuilt unit on an exchange basis. A little more expense, but worth it in the long run.
