Ford Fairlane Ford Fairlane was produced from 1955 through 1969. The original body design was the full sized Ford body which started out as a family vehicle and slowly evolved into many different available models and body styles. The exterior paint and trim options, seemed endless with elaborate cloth woven seat covers and a rainbow of paint combinations.

Default Not MECHANICALLY Knowledgable

Hello All,

I have a 66 Fairlane 500 sitting in my driveway for months due to an electrical problem. I drove the car a few months ago and I believe the wires have caught on fire. The signal light relay pop and basically caught on fire. I tried to find a book on it but I gave up due to it was taking too much time. Would I need to have the car re-wired or what can I do to fix the issue? Any suggestion or advice is greatly appreciated.

being that the wiring is probably in shambles now, i'd consider getting a wiring kit from painless.

Thanks for the site info. Since they don't indicate the Fairlane but the Mustang would I be able to use that since I believe the older mustangs had a 289?

Whoa, throttle back there a bit airman. FIRST before we yank all the wiring out and start spending money at Painless, let us find out, specifically, what exactly has fried under the dash. SECOND Lots of knowlerable people from all over the nation on this board, and you may have just the expert you need living right down the street. So, as they used to ask in the seventies, Jose. "What's your Twenty?" (were are you located?) RICK

yeah, seen care fires, stuff can get pretty burnt.... but let him dig through about thirty miles of bad wire, just to determine its all compromised...

still some pics wouldn't hurt us, maybe it aint so bad

Yeah, and I can tell you the story about an electrical short that smelled like a dead body inside and turned out to be a bypassed fusable link. The man's here looking for help, not to see us get our shorts in a wad. Fact: you can't provide a fix without first knowing what the problem is. If you had a flat you wouldn't change all four tires, would you? Your idea is correct PROVIDED the whole harness is toasted. Let us find out for sure.

...and if so one can always find another original harness.

This reminds me of a time about 20 years ago when I replace the wiring on my mustang. Long story short it turned out I put the wrong back up bulbs in. But if its visibly burnt change it.
