Ford Fairlane Ford Fairlane was produced from 1955 through 1969. The original body design was the full sized Ford body which started out as a family vehicle and slowly evolved into many different available models and body styles. The exterior paint and trim options, seemed endless with elaborate cloth woven seat covers and a rainbow of paint combinations.

Default 66 Fairlane 289/C4

How can I swap an AOD in for that C4? What years AOD will work, and what will I need to make or adjust so that it will work in the car? It's a mean soundin' 289 with 3 inch mac's dumpin' straight at the ground under the seats. Great car, lookin' for some highway mileage! I do a lot of highway driving and it's my daily. Thanks!

pretty much all of the AOD's will go in. Make sure you get one with a throttle valve, rather than one that is electrically controlled shifted.

AOD's use specific shift linkage and require a throttle valve cable.

Personally I would stick with the C4 and change your driving habbits and tune the car up.
