Sorry to say this, but I tend to be blunt when it comes to mechanical applications. I used to be employed in a trade that required a working knowledge in physics and mechanics but am now paying the price becasue someone without the knowledge decided to cut corners.
The person broke some bolts that held an assembly together and tried to hide his inability to perform his job by super gluing the heads back in place.
I came along later and thinking the assembly was intact placed it in a lathe. He didn't suffer...
No Mike, internet sites/boards like this one tend to draw people who were born with the know-how as well as those that can't master pop top cans and would die of thurst if it wasn't for a waitress. Somewhere down the stack you will find a topic in which it was stated that the rest of us weren't too smart because we hadn't noticed that Pinto spindles can be bolted onto the stock Falcon/Comet control arms.
The way the topic was worded the person was going to make kits to sell to the rest of us. For some reason I was the only one who pointed out the Pinto spindle had a shorter height and that would destroy the geometry of the front end.
I willl admit I thought I would get flamed but the other party did openly admit the wheels were at odd angles. I do hope that if anyone read his opening statement and got the idea he was correct simply because he published his (mis-)information on the internet read all the way through the topic and that changed their mind about doing the same conversion.
I know of some Ford sites that will not publish any conversion info in fear of being sued when the conversion fails and injured parties seek comp. I try to remember that and keep my mouth shut but sometimes the people are just too close to killiing someone with their lack of understanding of the facts of the real world.
One person, who will remain un-named, strongly objected to my publishing the "Lame Brain" engine swaps topic even though it was writen for and published by the FCA ages ago. The person felt that everyone had the right to "learn" though making mistakes. No, everyone should learn by exploring the information passed on by others first. The ER's and graveyards are full of people who didn't.
All I can do is point out the errors in judgement and add, "It's your car..."
