well it seems like forever since ive gotten to work on the Falcon or post here.
I finially ordered my steering column from IDIDIT. i got the paintable tilt column with blinkers/ / floor shift. i ordered a 32" with 1" DD end, and a U-joint splined to 3/4" - 36 x 1" DD, and the floor mount.
the column is too long once i mounted it. it could be used as is, but sticks out too far from the dash, so i decided to shorten it by three inches. yes, i could send it back, pay restocking, order a shorter one, but hell, then i wouldnt get to take it apart
ill post some pics of the process early next week, im out of town thur - sun.

i also tightened and torqued all the ball joints, tie rod ends and it looks like its going to work. i did a rough align (i mean rough) to see if i had enough travel on the tie rod ends and all that looks good.

sorry, no pics this post, just some info.

this is how i shortened the IDIDIT steering column.

at the bottom of the column there is a small roll pin, drive it in until it is below the surface of the outer sleeve of the column.

then pry the black plastic bushing out, and cut off the outer sleeve.

then cut the inner shaft. I made a small plug that fits inside the inner shaft.
i had to cut off 3".

then grind some flats to match the U-joint.

then drill and roll pin. i also put some tack welds on just for extra measure.

then drill for the U-joint, re-drill a new small hole for the outer sleeve roll pin and install.

done and ready to put in the car.

the 302 is back in, i hope for the last time
here are some pics since i know we all love to look at pics LOL

and couple of shot of the interior. i got the mustang floor shifter in today, although i think i am going to build a spacer to put under it to lift it about 3" off the floor.
and you can see the IDIDIT column fits snug now.

ill do some more work tomorrow to mount the coil and starter relay and some other little things.
and BTW the Granada drive line will fit without an modification. i could not beleive that when i tried it out. have to put new U-joints in before i use it.

just a side note. its about 5 times easier to install the V-8 without the old export braces to hang up on everything. i really like the look of the new ones.

I was concerned that i would not have enough room on each side to get headmans in there with the granada steering box, so i used the stockers, they are really low profile.

FoMoCo used the same shifter on ALL C-4 applications which called for a floor mounted shifter.

ran into a minor problem with the solid shifter rod that connects the C-4 to the floor shifter.
it seems that the tunnel brace is in the way along with the tranny mount i made for the C-4.
two options, make my own shifter rod (I like a challenge) or
use a cable shifter (the easy way out)

or just thought of a third option.
modify the tunnel support brace

stay tunned!!!!

moving onto the electrical....
in the past i have used the painless fuse box with good results. in the 51 ford i ripped out every single wire in the car and started over. however with this car, the wireing looks to be in really good shape so no need to go to that extreem. i am running a GM one wire alt, so the external voltage reg is not needed which means some wire changes need to be made. here is my solution.

i plan on running an inline 30 amp fuse to the main power going to the light switch/key switch direct from the battery. for all other new circuits like the distrubitor, horn relay, driving lights, engine bay LEDs this little fuse block should work fine. the plan is to mount it close to the battery.
