I have a 65 Falcon Futura Station Wagon with the 200ci L6 and the 2 speed auto trans. What is happening, I can get the timing dialed in, carb adjusted in idle and it revs fine. The timing is advancing properly and everything seems fine until you drop it in grear and it seems to just fall flat. It has no power whatsoever to pull out. Timing? Carb? Vacume Advance? Trans? Any suggestion or advice would be great.
I'm no expert by far but I ran into a similar issue with my 63 about 3 months back. Sitting in the driveway the motor would start, run, and rev fine. The second I'd put it in gear and begin to slip the clutch the motor would fall on it's face. Problem wound up being a new set of points I got from the local autozone. Duralast I think was the brand. But the springs were so weak on these NEW points that they'd float the instant I put a load on the motor. I went back to the origional points and everything ran fine. So I now only buy accel points from Oreillys Automotive which are VERY expensive compaired to the generics but I've not had a problem since. This may not be the same issue you're having if you're not getting and misfires when you drop it into gear and you didn't say if you've recently replaced anything on the timing side. Hope this helps.
