My '62 did the same thing. One problem I found was the filler neck was assembled incorrectly. The entire assembly was inside the trunk with bad gaskets... I fixed that but it is still hard to fill.

I thought the vent might be plugged - I have a new tank, but the vent tube was not removed when the car was undercoated and painted. I checked that and it is clear. I just fuel really slowly with only the tip of the nozzle in the filler.

I have a 64 convertible with the same problem. If you look in the trunk the filler neck does not go straight down. It curves to the right. You need to angle the handle so it is shooting to the right and don't pump at full pressure. You have to do it on the low setting.

A shame, it takes me just as long to fill the fourteen gallon tank on the Falcon as it does on my 38 gallon pick up.

mine is the same way too. i found a gas station near home with no guards/shields on their nozzles also the nozzle seems longer than the racetrack and quick trip nozzles. i stick it in real far and it pumps pretty quick.

Yep, as many others have said you can't pump at full speed. On my 63 I can't even go at half speed, I've seen people in SUV's come & go while I'm still plugging away whistling a dixie tune. I've often wondered if I was the only one having this problem!

If it really erks you you can always upgrade to the 65 fuel tank which moves the tube to the center of the tank. You will need to get a new sending unit as well, but you also get a couple more gallons.
