Ford Festiva The Ford Festiva was introduced for 1988. Three trim levels were offered: L, L Plus, and LX. The Festiva's 1.3-liter 4-cylinder engine switched from carburetion to fuel injection in 1989-90. For '90, a 5-speed manual transmission was standard and a 3-speed automatic optional. Festivas got a fresh grille and taillamps for 1990, and motorized front shoulder belts replaced manual belts.

Angry 93 Festiva shoulder harness won't work

I recently purchased a 1993 Festiva, and neither automatic shoulder belt will work.
The "BELTS" warning light stays lit, and I have tried to find any fuses that might
cause the problem.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

Also, it just barely FAILED smog, any suggestions on a CHEAP fix, like maybe
new plugs, fuel additive, etc....?

thanks

Russ

The Festiva is probably gone by now. But the emissions test. If it barely failed, I would say, new plugs, oil change and take it for a good 10-15 mile ride at 50 MPH or above before you go to the emissions testing site. This will have the engine up to running temperature and all the onboard emissions systems should be within their operating parameters.

There's a fuse for the seat belts in the dash fuse panel, right of the steering wheel about knee level. There's a hatch that opens up and look at the bottom fuses. One says seat belts and should be a 30 amp. If it's blown hard, by this I mean it's black inside the case, you may have a bad seatbelt servo or jammed rail. If you can't tell if it's open, an ohm meter across the pins will tell you. If open and you can't see it, that's what we, in the TV/VCR repair business call a soft blow which could mean one or both of the seat belt servos may have bound for a second and opened the fuse.

Bassman, am I glad you posted. I would have never thought of looking there for the problem we're having with our seat belts. Thanks

Talking Seat belt and Smog Failure reply...

Thank you for your response.
RE:Shoulder belt failure= The 30amp fuse was tested with a meter, and is ok.

RE:Smog Failure= I will do just that right before I try to re-smog.

thank you
Russ
