Ford Festiva The Ford Festiva was introduced for 1988. Three trim levels were offered: L, L Plus, and LX. The Festiva's 1.3-liter 4-cylinder engine switched from carburetion to fuel injection in 1989-90. For '90, a 5-speed manual transmission was standard and a 3-speed automatic optional. Festivas got a fresh grille and taillamps for 1990, and motorized front shoulder belts replaced manual belts.

Default car wont start

I went to start my 1989 ford festiva last night and it started, stuttered, and turned off. I then tried again right after it shut off and it started right up. Today, I went to start my car and and would crank and crank but would not turn over. After reading some threads im quessing it is either the fuel pump or the fuel filter and I was wondering if there was a quick fix or an easy way to check, if so how do I do it.

Are you sure that it cranks but wont turn over. your motor must be froze. But if it cranks meaning that the engine rotates and the motor wont start It has to be the fuel relay or the fuel shut off button needs resetting.

Default Help!

My uncle has left his 1991 Ford Festiva 5 speed manual in the garage for a little over 10 years now. No one in the family knows how to drive standard or bothered to learn, but i am almost getting my license and plan to take it. The other day me and my dad tried to go out and get it started. It want to start so we tried pourin some gas down the carborator. While this did start the car for a while it died again. I got advice from a mechanic and he said that i may still have some old oil sitting at the bottom but lost its use. Or may be something wrong with the gas pump not being able to pump the gas back up, does anyone know how i can fix this? Thanx in advance.

old oil has nothing to due with your starting prob- its old gas --

remove fuel tank-- clean fuel tank-- blow out all fuel lines -- rebuild carburator-- remove and clean and regap all spark plugs -- check and adjust the points -- -- drain oil and replace oil filter -- add 5 quarts of good 10/30 oil -- now your almost ready to start car - all most -

check air cleaner for rats nest-- check flow of gas from fuel pump by disconnecting gas line from carb and running a hose into a can-- turn engin over -- when you have gas comeing from hose reconnect it to carb -- check coil for fire -- NOW - your ready to start car

when you crank a car -that means the engine turns over -- when you turn the key -it engages the starter --

Default won't start

That most likely is a bad fuel pump! Try a little starting fluid and I mean a little, shoot it in where the air cleaner goes and if it fires up for a sec or 2 it's probably the fuel pump. the fuel pump is expensive and it is located in the gas tank . there is a access panel under the carpet after you take out the rear seat and pull the carpet forward you will see a square access panel in the middle of the car . Make sure you disconnect the battery before you begin. if your not mechanically inclined take it to someone who is. hope I helped
