Default Windshield Wipers Annoyance

I'm not sure which is the 'right' category to put this in so I'm putting it here.

Does anyone have a way to shut off the annoying delayed wiper after washing your windshield? If this is a factory thing, Ford never bothered to test it in a region full of ice, snirt and salty roads. You just get your windshield clean and then after a few seconds that delayed 'last pass' of the wipers comes over it again and low and behold, that salty wet mess the truck ahead of you sprays on your windshield is smeared again, thus starting the long line of obscenities when you realize your washer fluid is gone again, after having to repeat the wash process so many times. Can this be turned off?? <end rant>

No I dont think so. It was done as a safety issue so if you accidentally hit the squirter's it will clean off the window so you dont get blinded, all new cars do this.

I live in Wisconsin and I just wash the window a little longer.

Its been that way on every Ford I have owned for more than 10 years, so I would say it was "tested". By the way, there is a lot of "snirty" weather around Dearborn.

Everyone has the right to their opinion. Yours just happens to be in the minority.

Default Courtesy Wipe

The person starting this thread is certainly NOT in the minority. This hasn't been the way on all Fords for years. I work for the company and it's a huge annoyance for states using salt. It can be blinding and they have done internal studies on this and people are very upset with the courtesy wipe feature that live in Michigan and other cold weather states.

I get a new vehicle every year and my Flex has been the first vehicle that I've had with this courtesy wipe. My ONLY complaints wtih my Flex (I really LOVE the car) is the courtesy wipe and the sound of my kid's booster seats against the leather seats when they aren't in them. They squeak terribly. I almost wish I had a brick or something to put in there when they aren't in them. I have a Limited so maybe it's whatever leather they use?

Anyway, I have heard of no plans to change the courtesy wipe but my husband is an engineer on the Mustang program and with all the complaining I"ve been doing he's getting in touch with the wiper guys to see if we can get an on/off switch for it.

Check my signature ! I have an 11 year old Ford product and it does the same thing !

I worked for the company for 31 years. One of my fellow engineers, that I ate lunch with regularly, worked on the little electronic box that controlled the wipers. It was the same one for every vehicle.

Default Courtesy Wipe

Well, maybe it's attitudes like yours that make me not want to post. You have the "because my vehicles have ALWAYS done this, they all do".

My last vehicle was a 2008 Edge. I can tell you there was NO courtesy wipe so again, NOT all cars have always had this for 10 years.

There have been numerous complaints on this and they looking at some method to reduce complaints in cold weather states.

A person simply wrote asking if there was a way to disable it and you made them feel there post wasn't worthwhile and that's just wrong. People come here to find out or share information and people like you shutting them down just simply isn't productive.

From theoldwizard sent to me VIA PM.

"First, my intent was not to insult anyone, so I apologize if my posting did so.

Second, sometimes I forget that I have no longer been employed by Ford Motor Company for the past 2 years and a few things might have changed.

While my remarks may have been flippant, I still believe they are basically accurate. It was tested and on salty roads.

Except of course the minority/majority consensus about preference of the courtesy wipe. None of us know that data.

Again, I apologize"
