Ford Focus Overall, it feels cushier than other compacts, both in terms of its comfortable seats and its soft suspension. It's fun to drive, however, with agile handling. It's comfortable on long trips and stable at high speeds. The Focus is among the best of the compacts in terms of ride quality and has been lauded by the enthusiast publications for its handling.

Default What Gas Mileage Does Your Focus Get?

I have a feeling my gas mileage is not up to par. I have a 2004 Focus, 4 cylinder with 37k miles on it. I have been getting a horrible 19-20 mpg with it.

What does everyone else get and any ideas on how I can improve it?

I thought it was supposed to get better than that. Is it throwing a CEL? Running right? Any codes?

It runs just fine. I don't have a scan tool, so I couldn't tell you if any codes are coming up. I'm not sure what a CEL is.

CEL -Check Engine Light.

Are your tires properly inflated, and aligned properly?

I just pulled this fuel economy offline -
MPG (city)
22

MPG (highway)
30

Usually you get slightly less than the 'ratings' but you seem to be well under. Hopefully others will input what they are getting.

I remember when I bought my '05 ZX3 (automatic) the sticker said 26mpg city and 34mpg hwy, I was only getting at best 27mpg (30% city) took it in to be checked under warranty. The dealer said they were getting 30mpg on the dyno and in perfect conditions (no wind), I was still unhappy then and have been checking it regularly. I get between 22mpg and 26mpg in the winter and now get 29.6mpg (50% city) but have never seen more than 32mpg on a hwy trip. I still think the ratings are not actual for my vehicle but I do have an automatic and I watch my driving habits to (more coasting and less stopping/starting). On average I usually see 27-28mpg all day long with my daily drive and I was hoping for 30mpg plus

I feel alot of people are buying gas at the cheapest price and getting E85 without realizing it.Gas mileage is not as good with E85 from what I understand.

My 2008 Focus get an average of 34 to 40 mpg.
That would depend on if I use the cruise control.
2.0L DOHC and automatic transmission with overdrive.
I do prefer to drive a manual over an automatic.
But to price was right.

My friend's rental (2008 Focus SE) was averaging 26.4 mpg (accoring to the message center). It looks like it's getting almost 330+ miles per tank, which is good.
