Ford Focus Overall, it feels cushier than other compacts, both in terms of its comfortable seats and its soft suspension. It's fun to drive, however, with agile handling. It's comfortable on long trips and stable at high speeds. The Focus is among the best of the compacts in terms of ride quality and has been lauded by the enthusiast publications for its handling.

Angry Part 2...see my post in Engine & DriveTrain

I will try to make this as short as possible.
Last summer I bought a used 2005 Focus ZX4 ST with 34,000 miles on it. I drive mostly highway, to and from work, 90 miles roundtrip. All was well until October 2007. One day I was driving to work and traffic started to back up. I tried to downshift and could not get the car into gear. It felt like the clutch was the problem and I took it to my usual mechanic. He agreed and replaced the entire clutch system....part by part because nothing seemed to fix the problem until he had replaced everything...Master, slave, disk, pressure plate.

All was well until two weeks ago. I was driving home from work and stopped for gas. No indication of any problem until I got back in the car and could not get it into first gear. Back to the shop....two weeks go by...they replace the entire clutch system again and finally after bleeding the system half a dozen times everything seemed to be okay.

I picked the car up last night and drove home without a problem...I drove to work this morning and all was well until I pulled into the parking lot at work and had trouble shifting gears again.

I parked the car and went to work. Then I decided to go out at lunch and see if it was still acting up. I started it and everything seems to be working fine again.

Needless to say, this whole problem has been frustrating, but as I was searching for info today I came across a reference to a TSB (04215) Transmission - which describes "Difficulty changing Gears - Unable to Engage Gears".

Now I'm wondering if my problem is not the clutch at all, but the tranny.

Anyone out there have any info on this problem?
