Ford Focus Overall, it feels cushier than other compacts, both in terms of its comfortable seats and its soft suspension. It's fun to drive, however, with agile handling. It's comfortable on long trips and stable at high speeds. The Focus is among the best of the compacts in terms of ride quality and has been lauded by the enthusiast publications for its handling.

Default Ford Focus 2000 Se

Trying to save a couple bucks on maintenace of my 2000 Ford Focus Se by doing things myself. She has 107k miles, but I love driving it. I bought the repair manual but have a couple of questions.

1. Coolant flush- Not sure where the engine block drain plug is. The rest seems straight forward and hits would be appricated?

2. Engine light came on. I was thinking of bringing my car to Murrays (auto store) to hook up their computer to see what is wrong. Could something as simple as changing the spark plug wires solve this isssue. Also could it be a pcv valve. I purchased a new one, but I am not sure where it is to replace it.

Thank you

#1. see link, you dont need the engine drain plug with my How-to. http://www.ford-forums.com/heating-a...ng-system.html

#2. get the codes read first before wasting money on parts you may not need. The codes will narrow down your issues fast.

Default 2000 Ford Focus Se- check engine light/coolant

Thank you for your knowledge. I will be performing an coolant flush once I try to solve my engine light issue.

I hooked up my car to a obd2 meter. I received a PO171-Engine adaptive fuel too lean bank 1. The guys at the auto parts store suggested. Changing the plugs (i did this just 10k miles before), new spark plug wires (still have factory motorcraft), o2 sensor (factory one still in it), and maybe pcv valve. They showed me where everything is on the engine except they couldn't find the pcv valve. About 10k miles ago I did add a "fuel" add to a full tank of gas.

Where do you think i should start?

Thank you,

I just started down the list. I checked the air filter and its fine, but I noticed the pcv filter in the box was very soaked with maybe gas or something. I did replace this about 12k ago. Is this supposed to tell me something. I am going to get the plugs and an o2 sensor on Friday. By the way I noticed I have 2 o2 sensors. Replace the top then the bottom or just repalce top and see if the light goes off?

Thank you again.

Status Report- I replaced both o2 sensors, and the wires. I just started to replace the fuel fiter. I depressurised the system, and found the filter. The dang darn thing will not come off. I opened the white clips all the way on the fuel (rubber lines), but it willn't come off. Any hints. I see 3 clips, 1 next to the fuel "hard" line and 2 on the filter. The filter looks like its rusted to pieces, so hopefully with all of your help she'll be back up and running. Thanks for everything.

The white clips have to come off and then the lines pull straight off.

Ok. I have to pull the white clips all the way out. I should have it fixed this weekend. I did notice a leak in a hose. I took a picture of it and posted it on my public photo album. I ducked under the right front and took a picture of it from below, towards the front of the car. Its on the lower right side (driver side of the engine). It looks like it runs from the engine to the radiator area in the front of the car. I want to replace it, but not sure what it is to ask for it at the autoparts store. The fuild is redish orange. It looks to be leaking on the other line.
