Ford Focus Overall, it feels cushier than other compacts, both in terms of its comfortable seats and its soft suspension. It's fun to drive, however, with agile handling. It's comfortable on long trips and stable at high speeds. The Focus is among the best of the compacts in terms of ride quality and has been lauded by the enthusiast publications for its handling.

Default 2001-focus vibration

I have a 2001 focus. I put new tires on it about a yr ago. After 7 months the steering wheel started to vibrate and wiggle horribly. I rotated all the tires and that seemed to fix the problem..Now about 5 months later, its started to vibrate again..When I'm going around 65-70 the car starts to vibrate, not the steering wheel, or when I engage the brakes...It also doesnt pull to the left or right. The vibration is felt in the steering wheel, and the gas pedal, but again the steering wheel does not shake. The vibration goes away when I go around turns and when I increase the speed from 70 to 75/80. What could possibly be the culprit??? Anyone ever experience this situation? Please advise if you have a possible solution...thanks

When I had my focus I had the same thing happen to me. What kind of tires did you get? Probably doesn't matter.

I never did get this problem fixed on my focus. I fixed a million other problems, but this one, even though I had a high speed balance done on it, never got better. That focus was junk. Sorry couldn't help..

Have the same problem with my 2000 focus. Everything points to wheel balancing. New tires fix the problem for a while but then it returns. Do you have the alloy wheels or steel ones? I have read that the steel wheels do not have this problem, they are heavier and therfore less sensitive to small changes in the balance. Find a good wheel and tire dealer and have them balance the wheels. Miata's have the same problem. http://www.miata.net/garage/65_mph.html

I have an 05 Focus that came with steel wheels from factory. I started having exactly the same problems as soon as I installed alloy wheels that came off from a different year Focus.

60-70 is the trouble spot for me as well and balancing did nothing to fix the problem. You may want to try obtaining a set of factory 14" or 15" steel wheels with tires on them. If you look around on eBay or Craigslist, you can find them through people who have intalled aftermarket alloy wheels.

Default My 05

I have been having this same problem with my 05. It happened on both my stock rims and a set of aftermarket alloy rims. I'm on the alloy rims now and after it ended up being that they were under inflated. It seems like it could have something to do with the suspension in the front too, because now that the tires are inflated properly the ride seems unusually rough.

I just took my vibrating (front right) focus to the dealership. I had a nice chat with the technician. He encouraged me to change out the lower control arm and it's bushing. Haven't tried it yet, but I will soon.

Anybody got any thoughts?
