| Real world gas mileage for Focus I will be looking for a new car soon to replace my tired old 89 Mercury Tracer. The Focus is on my shortlist. I am curious as to what kind of gas mileage others are getting on the highway. I am one of those who tracks my mileage religiously on the cars I drive (except for my 68 Torino as I don't really want to know). I have had replaced the Tracer with a 99 ZX2, but could only get 32 highway with it. I also have a 94 Scort Wagon that doesn't do any better. The Tracer was brought back out of retirement (no trade-in value) and soldiers on at 365,000 miles. I don't see this car lasting much longer, but it averages upper 30's and even tops 40 when driving in the 55-60 range. I will need another reliable commuter car soon and would prefer one that can average upper 30's on the highway.
The Focus 5sp advertises 38. Do any of you actually get that @ 70-75 mph? How about with the AC running, and one or two passengers. I commute 100 miles a day and usually have one passenger. I can take the interstate for an easier drive, but often drive a short cut that limits me to 55-60. Both take the same amount of time to commute, but obviously the slower speed of the short cut nets me better gas mileage numbers. |

| Mileage I have an 04 ZX5 with auto and a/c. Driven exclusively around the city (including some freeways) I get 26 miles per US gallon (8.8l/100km) Its not great, but when you factor in the much lower purchase price and running costs for a Japanese product, I'm happy. Get one with a 5sp. The A/T is a good unit, but saps the 136 hp really. Hurry, as the 4dr+hatch and thew s/w are ending their production run, more's the pity

| I have a 2005 Ford Focus SES Automatic, Just around town I get about 23/24mpg. I am a commuter to school 4 days a week and must take the interstate for about 45mins - 1hr. and I get between 30-33mpg driving that.
Hope this helps! |

| my advice, stay away from the focus. I bought one expecting great gas milage and I have always had fords. But I am sold off of ford with my focus being an extreme disapointment on every level. And I do not get very good gas milage. Also, it is a terrible winter car. Hope this helps and its not too late. |

| We have a 2007 zx3 with a 5 speed stick... average combined milage is 33 / 34. straight highway at 65 is aroung 30, at 70 /plus it is down to about 28/ 29. with the a/c on maybe 27 . But we have full synthetic Mobile 1 in engine and transaxle since 1500 miles, tires at max psi hot and I had it aligned when new with me in the drivers seat and 1/2 tank of gas. Paul |

| Realistically, figure about 25 mpg highway and thats really taking it easy. Not really great for a four cylinder car. I'm getting 23 mpg in my 6 cylinder Escape.

| I have a 2005 Ford Focus ST. This model has the 2.3L engine and a 5 speed manual. I do mostly highway driving. In cold weather I was getting 28-29 mpg. In warmer weather I was getting 31 mpg consistently. Average speed 65-70 mpg using cruise control. I switched my engine oil to Amsoil 0W-30 full synthetic and changed my transmission to Amsoil 5W-40 full synthetic. My warm weather mpg increased to between 32-34 consistenly. Cold weather mileage increased to 29-30 mpg consistently. |

| I have a 2007 ZX5 with an auto and I average 30 on the highway cruising about 75. If I drop down to 65 I'll see 33/34. |
