Ford Focus Overall, it feels cushier than other compacts, both in terms of its comfortable seats and its soft suspension. It's fun to drive, however, with agile handling. It's comfortable on long trips and stable at high speeds. The Focus is among the best of the compacts in terms of ride quality and has been lauded by the enthusiast publications for its handling.

Exclamation Vibration at idle and in gear moving Please HELP

I have a 2000 Focus LX manual transmission. It vibrates fairly hard throughout the whole body especially when cold it seems. The vibration is present whether idle or moving. The vibration speeds up as the car does and has almost an exhaust sound to it.

At first I was thinking motor mount, but then I read that the vibration should go away when moving in gear. It doesn't.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your help.

Rob

I just got the car from my niece. It's seems to have plenty of power (if you can say that about the LX). It's not sluggish or anything.

But I'll check the plugs and wires and filter. I do know that there is an aftermarket filter on the car.

thanks

2 things:

Engine issues ( Internal )

or

Transmission ( Clutch )

I really don't think there is an internal engine issue, but could you explain in more detail? The car runs and drives fine, has plenty of power and shifts smoothly.

The vibration is like that of a playstation dual shock controller if that helps. That's what it reminds me of. It definately speeds up with higher rpms and slows down with lower ones.

Thanks for the advise.

Have you checked if a weight has fallen off the rim. Which may cause an un-balanced real which gives vibration?

Your wheel bearing might have to be looked at which gives a big vibration and noise.

No, again, the vibration is in the throttle. I can be sitting still and feel it. If I am sitting in neutral and rev the gas the vibration gets faster and back slower. The vibration is more pronounced when it is cold out and the car is cold.

Your saying that vibration only occurs when you rev the gas. Can you check your exhaust mounting brkt and its rubber. Maybe you have a worn out exh mtg rubber. Or check for any loose bolt on your exhaust system ( form muffler A, B, and C). What I mean is form exhaust manifold line down to your muffler.

Your right Chaya...Exhaust system can be loose, or engine mounts have gone bad.

I would bet on the motor mounts, especially from what I've read on the manuals. If you find the right rpm you can put the cabin in resonance and vibrate stuff all over the place! For a quick check, start the car in the driveway, brake on out of gear [of course]. go to the front and put your hand on the oil panand push. if your get a change in the vibration its either the mounts [you have a choice of three] mine was the passenger side, or there is and exhaust rub as stated earlier.
