Ford Focus Overall, it feels cushier than other compacts, both in terms of its comfortable seats and its soft suspension. It's fun to drive, however, with agile handling. It's comfortable on long trips and stable at high speeds. The Focus is among the best of the compacts in terms of ride quality and has been lauded by the enthusiast publications for its handling.

Default 2000 won't start...

My grandparents just bought a 200 Focus a week ago, and now it won't start. I can fix a lot of things, but diagnosing problems is not something I can do.

Electronics work, lights turn on, alarm works, etc. But when the key is turned, the car doesn't attempt to turn over. There is no "clicking" from the starter or any noise from anywhere. I'm going to take out the battery and starter and take them up and get them tested. I'm also going to check the fuses...is there any other things it could be? Once i go over there, I won't have access to the internet, so I'm trying to figure this out before I head over there. Thanks for any help!

The car has an alarm, and it appears to be working correctly, but I'm not sure about a couple things. There is a small red popup button on the dash to the right of the headlight switch. Is that the valet button? the alarm manual talks about a button that overrides the whole system and kills the alarm, but I have no idea where that button is, any place that Ford likes to stick those, so I can use it if I need to? Thanks

I had that problem back in 2000/2001. Apparently, it was very known by the Ford dealer and the car got fixed pretty quickly

It didn't appear known by my dealer. I have the same problem - dealer claims 'it started for us so we didn't see the problem' and charged me $50 to retorque starter cabling per some TSB. If it's the slightest bit cool in the morning, the ignition key is useless - I just turn and turn and turn and maybe after twenty minutes or so of trying every half-minute, it will simply start normally, just as you would expect.

I suppose I should be happy the ignition isn't locked and immobilized, like so many others experience...

I had the problem. I found out that their is a small black wire leading from the battery to the ignition. The wire tends to corrode and breaks. Take a look at it and get back to us if you found the problem.

The starting circuit has several relays - one for the fuel pump and one for the engine computer. I had a no start problem only in cold weather - but the car cranked. I discovered that the I had a bad relay for the fuel pump- and if I swapped this bad relay with the computer relay the car wouldn't even crank. The high beam relay is also the same- so you can test by swapping that one in for the computer relay- if it turns out to be the problem buy yourself a new relay at Advance Auto for $8 and life will be good.
