Ford Freestar The Ford Freestar is a solid, highly capable minivan that performs well and offers all the latest safety features. Much of the Freestar's structure and design came from the Windstar it replaced. Windstar offered class-leading safety and solid performance for its time. Freestar is the highest quality minivan it has ever built.

Exclamation 2005 Freestar Limited Edition

Having problem with my van especially when there is snow or slush on the road ,it seems like the transmission jumps or chugs, the RPM's go up a bit ,does not do it when the roads are dry,not sure if it is a sensor or what?

Have experienced same problem, usually at speeds of 70-100 kph (45-60 mph) under same conditions. Ford dealer initially addressed the issue by re-sealing an under-hood cowl-mounted electrical connector (Ford Technical bulletin 06-14-10 - engine skip/shutdown due to moisture intrusion) which did not correct the problem. Tire slippage was then suspected - which activates automatic braking by the AdvanceTrac stability control system. Deactivation of that system resulted in no change. At this point the basic traction-control system (braking and power reduction) may be the source - but this system apparently functions at low speeds only. According to the dealer, Ford technical support has no solution at this time.

The frequent occurences of the "bump-and-thump" and engine-power changes at higher speeds is certainly an annoyance. Furthermore, this may be a safety issue if the brake application-and-release is harsh enough to result in further loss of traction is very slippery/icy conditions. (Am losing confidence in the effectivenss of these automatic systems!)

I am having the same problem, only when its snowing outside, wish someone could figure this one out. The service manager told me if it starts doing it again to bring it right in so they can try and figure this one out. The last time i left it with them 4 days and it didn't do it one time, (so they say) so my wife has strict orders to beatfeet to ford next time it happens, and if i find the fix i'll post it here.
