Not sure yet I havent had to try this but sometime if you try from the bottom and go buy some nuckle joints or a flexible extension should help you out. I have to resort sometimes to someone else doing it. I have 60,000 miles before i get to mine.

I have 36k on my 2006. I have read on fordforum.com that the best way to get the firewall side plugs is by taking the time to reomove the black plastic cover where the wipers are. this allows adequate access from the top. They also talk about doing from the bottom with the car on stands - seems like harder access to me.

I just replaced mine. I chose the from the top option. I removed the cowl, plenty of room. Wiper arms need to be removed first then outer cover then the cowl it self. The wiper assembly stayed one piece on the cowl. I took me 30 minutes to remove, 10-15 min on the sparkplugs job and another 30 minutes to put them back together. Note: pay attention to the seal around the fresh air intake for the cabin air.
