The best way that I can describe it is like one of the pulleys have a brake on it and the brake is engaged at that moment and the engine stalls. It happen on one of the coldest days here in Miami, Fl so I dont know if that has something to do with it. I was thinking it was the alt going bad and seizing causing to much of a load on the engine to stall it but the alt is fine. Could it be the water pump maybe. What could be putting that much of a load on the engine to stall it at the low rpms. It was not consistant and happened intermittently today.

Hum.....

Thanks,

So did you ever get the van fixed?
What was the final diagnosis?

WIX filters are the best, better than OEM. If you as for a store brand filter from NAPA, they use a WIX, just painted blue. Go there and ask them why.

It had to do with the spring and the element inside the filter being better. Factory Fords and GM are about the same as a FRAM. Only Toyota uses filters that are similar to WIX.

Spun Bearing... They can act really wierd and scary sounding. Sometimes the engine runs fine but then heat expands the metals and the bearing begins to spin.

This sounds so exactly what I am dealing with. It's the camshaft sensor SYNCHRONIZER that can make squealy noises even with the belt removed. I'm not 100% sure yet though since I havn't figured yet how to get the water line out of the way to replace the synch. Mine threw an emissions code at first (maybe unrelated) which now is gone after battery disconnect. Now no codes are generated. The dealer says that a Cam sensor synchronizer, being purely mechanical can malfunction w/o throwing a code.

take the ignition coil off and check it closely for cracks. I assume the cam sensor code is P0340?
I'm also assuming basic maintenance is up to date (oil change, fuel filter)?

Adding to the oil filter being the problem debate..... The problem with cheap filters is that the spring wears prematurely and the oil is allowed to by-pass the filter before the filter is completely spent. It is unlikely the filter would somehow lock out the by-pass feature as it is fairly well lubricated.
