We all know you'll get rapped when trading in your car.

I just check KBB today on a 2005 Freestar SE with 40K miles. KBB condition Good = $4,600.

I have not log in dates to compare, but I'm sure the KBB value was like 9-8K just a few months ago.

I understand dealers are not making money now.

This is almost robbery. I can take the engine and trans apart and sell it for more money than $4,600.

You CAN NOT buy a Freestar (at 40K miles) for $4,600. Looking around retail, I've seen some at 13K and 10K.

Wow!

Mr. Dealer..... I would love to buy a new car from you to help out the economy.... Sorry at $4,600 trade in, no can do......

Yeah it is crazy. A fellow member here just bought a 2004 Monterey Premier for $7000, hell of a steal.

It might make more sense in buying a lightly used car from a private party rather than the trip to the dealer but you will have to look hard and be patient.
