Ford Freestar The Ford Freestar is a solid, highly capable minivan that performs well and offers all the latest safety features. Much of the Freestar's structure and design came from the Windstar it replaced. Windstar offered class-leading safety and solid performance for its time. Freestar is the highest quality minivan it has ever built.

Default Repairing Power Door Locks

Ghostriderr6 posted this on "Highest Mileage":
"...the only problem was the passenger door power lock motor sounded like the gears were stripped and wouldn't operate the lock. if you are mechanically inclined u can save yourself $60. If u take the door lock motor out and take it apart there is a plastic gear inside that was stripped but only half of the gear is used so i just turned it around and now the fresh non stripped side of the gear is working fine but now i know if it happens again i'll have to buy a new motor."

I had the same problem, but with the side door, which is a different actuator, and $100 from Rockotto, as it's a real Ford part, and not aftermarket. It looked like far too much work to open the actuator, as it is heavily glued. Could have done it with a rotary saw in a Dremel tool, I guess. I figured it was unrepairable, anyhow.

Could have saved a week running around with that door inoperative and its panel off, too.

It's a lot of work to replace that actuator, so be sure it's making that stripped gear noise before tearing into the door.
