Ford Freestar The Ford Freestar is a solid, highly capable minivan that performs well and offers all the latest safety features. Much of the Freestar's structure and design came from the Windstar it replaced. Windstar offered class-leading safety and solid performance for its time. Freestar is the highest quality minivan it has ever built.

Default Paranoid ... I think not

Well. Here I am. I've been posting since I bought my 2004 Monterey used last year, nervous that I made a bad decision after reading all the tranny horror stories. Asking for advice on how to prolong the life of the tranny. Doing all that was suggested. Doing all required maintenance. My family said "it's good to keep it maintained, but stay off those message boards and don't be paranoid." Well, paranoia paid off. Guess what just happened to me an hour ago. On the side of a very dangerous road almost getting hit by trucks as my van drifted off the side of the road with RPMs pegged up to 8 and no transmission engagement. This is definitely my last Ford product. I had a 2000 Taurus that was nothing but trouble either. I am very hurt and disappointed. Just called the dealer I just bought it from last year. Can't do anything for me. "It's a used car." Thanks Ford.

So sorry to hear about your trouble. I know your pain.
Hopefully you have some sorta extended warranty or something, because its the most expensive crappy transmission around.

Get rid of it, it will happen again. Ask me how I know.

Ford will never get another dollar of my money again - thats for sure!

Good luck. And do your research because from what I have recently found out the honda vans are worse for tranny failure than ford - and more expensive to replace.

Sorry for the bad luck. Everything mechanical breaks. All manufacturers have problems.

I have owned my last Ford product many years ago, somehow I keep buying different ones.

I owned my last GM product over 10 years ago and recently bought another GM last year.
