Ford Freestar The Ford Freestar is a solid, highly capable minivan that performs well and offers all the latest safety features. Much of the Freestar's structure and design came from the Windstar it replaced. Windstar offered class-leading safety and solid performance for its time. Freestar is the highest quality minivan it has ever built.

Default Loose Nut

Happened to notice a slight bit of corrosion under the battery terminals on our "new" '04 Monty, 80K miles. Found the clamp on the neg post was completely loose!

Tried to tighten the nut, but it seemed to bottom out with the clamp still loose. The bolt threads were galled. Replaced bolt & nut with 10-32 aircraft parts, upon which the clamp snugged on fine. The original pos bolt was ok.

I can just imagine all the intermittent faults that could be caused by this, although I haven't noticed anything bad, except 12-13 mpg on the computer.

The battery is a Motorcrapt, so probably the original. Could it have been this way from the factory?

I personally immediately redo battery connections for every vehicle I buy, new or used. I also add a generous amount petrol gel Vaseline to both of the terminal connections, yes the stuff in home for personal use too. It works great and never have connection issues till time to change the battery.

Cheers
