Default Cabin Filter 2004 Freestar

I have a 3.9L V6 in my 2004 Freestar, the AC blows strong but the vents seem to perform at 40% or so. So, my guess is perhaps there is a Cabin Filter. The owners manual states "your vehicle may or maynot have a cabin filter" I looked at the "filter book" in AutoZone/Checker (had to do an oil change and changed the filter). So here's where I'm at... The AutoZone/Checker people stated that they have the filter for $11.99 (USD) and they "don't know where it is". The dealership knows where it is and states that I have to "disassemble a portion of the dash" but it is in the interior. I asked if it's just behind the glove box, and they still insist that a portion of the dash has to be removed. And they carry the filter for $44.00+Tax (USD)

So where the heck is it and if it's $11.99 where do I put it.

In my 2002 Silverado the Cabin Filter was under the Glove Box close to the fire wall. 4 screws and done...

Got my fingers crossed...

Any responsed appreciated.

First, sue the dealer for fraud.

Do you really have a Freestar owner's manual that says there may not be a cabin air filter? Even our cargo windstar has one.

Lift the hood and look where you might find that book sized filter behind a plastic door. It's horizontal on the pax side.

Yeah the guy at the dealer was a butthead, he sounded like a robot. He kept saying the same thing... ("the dash has to be partially disassembled"). The manual does say something to that effect (not all models have a cabin air-filter). I'll check out the exact verbage and repost. I'm gonna look in the area you stated and if I see it, I'm headed to AutoZone/Checker.

Thanks for the reply.

Cabin Filter location=if you look at the windshield wiper on the passenger side (with the hood open) the filter location is about 4" below the wiper. Pops open, no tools required.

The owners guide doesn't even state that there is a filter... The AutoZone/Checker computers & catalogs state "if equipped" insinuating that not all models have a cabin filter.

I got mine changed at one of those drive thru oil change places for $15. Cheap enough. Those guys barely make over minimum wage and they had it figured out but the well paid dealer techs couldn't figure it out; BS.

I was reading the manual, and said notihing about it, so I assumed it did not have one. One day I was under the hood, and happand to see this little panel looking at me on the pass side of the cowl. Pop it off, and there was the filter. AND 90k worth of crud on it!!!!
