Ford Freestar The Ford Freestar is a solid, highly capable minivan that performs well and offers all the latest safety features. Much of the Freestar's structure and design came from the Windstar it replaced. Windstar offered class-leading safety and solid performance for its time. Freestar is the highest quality minivan it has ever built.

Default Freestar vs. Windstar 3rd seat comfort

So just for fun, I decided to sit in the third seat of my Monterey today (only the kids use the seat, but I thought I'd give it a whirl). Uncomfortable as heck for adults. So I went to my in-law's house. My step father-in-law has a '96 Windstar (by the way, he's got 112,000 miles w/ original transmission. I couldn't even make it to 70,000. But anyhoo....) I sat in the third seat and was totally impressed. I could actually sit back there for an extended period and not be too bothered. Seats nice and soft and comfy. Not great but not bad leg room. My Monty's third row seat is hard as a rock and forget about leg room unless you want your knees in your chin. Isn't it a darn shame that a '96 Windstar's third seat is so much more comfortable than an '04 Monterey (aka Freestar)? Anyone else notice this?
