Ford Freestar The Ford Freestar is a solid, highly capable minivan that performs well and offers all the latest safety features. Much of the Freestar's structure and design came from the Windstar it replaced. Windstar offered class-leading safety and solid performance for its time. Angry Malfunctioing Locks,

Hello, has anyone ever experienced the van locking all by itself. It happened to me earlier, my baby was inside. I pressed the remote twice to unlock all of the doors, put her in her car seat along with two other bags, and I shut the doors and the doors locked! i had to call the piolice to get the baby out.

Some cars have this as an option as soon as the doors are closed, if it is an option for that year have it disabled.

I would recommend disabling it because you don't want it to happen again.

Where was the remote, in your purse, in the car? Could something in the purse have been pushing against it?

I would keep the key separate from the remote. There's no point in having them together. In fact, you can hide a key accessible from outside the car. just for emergencies such as this.

If the sliders are open but you lock the doors, they will lock as soon as they close. I accidentally locked in my baby girl in an explorer and called the police/locksmith. Although she was comfortable and safe, it really made me want to rip a door off; lots of anxiety. Glad everything turned out ok for you.

Ford will install a keyless pad on your door for $200 or so.. a replacement key is over $100... no waiting for 911.. no worries.. JMHO

My Crown vic has a PATs system that requires a programmed key to start the car. They are big and bulky. I carry a much flatter key in my wallet that will open the doors, but won't start the car in the event that I lock my keys in the car. You might consider using one of those "hide a key" magnets if you have a PATs system.

In an emergency, if your van is a windstar, you can screw off the antenna, pull the top of the door out a bit, and push the antenna through the weatherproofing, straight down onto the door open button. Ask me how I know

Glad everything worked out ok.
