Ford Freestar The Ford Freestar is a solid, highly capable minivan that performs well and offers all the latest safety features. Much of the Freestar's structure and design came from the Windstar it replaced. Windstar offered class-leading safety and solid performance for its time. Freestar is the highest quality minivan it has ever built.

Default Need some advice on transmission problem.

Hello everyone - so glad to find a forums for my Freestar. My name is Lance and I drive a 2004 Freestar SEL with 81k on it currently. Its a nice looking and riding van and has been decent on gas. I am hoping that someone can help me with some information about transmissions. I read some of the posts on here for transmission problems and I think I have the same one as MonsoonMike just had.

Here is what happened, I was driving yesterday afternoon about 60mph when suddenly the engine started revving freely like it was in nuetral?? The van stopped in the middle of a busy highway so I got my 4 kids out and we crossed the street and left it. Finally the wrecker got there and he said none of the gears worked, just seems to be stuck in neutral? I called carmax which is where we purchased it two years ago and let them know its coming because we have the ESP with them. They are supposed to look at it today - and contact me about what happened.

I really hate to take a loss on the vehicle trading it in, but my wife doesn't want our family in it anymore - which I can't partially blame her for. It has stranded me several times like this(not transmission issues), but never just stopping in the middle of the road.

Anyone have any ideas as to whats happened to it? It had its 30k and 60k transmission services and I checked the dipstick when the wrecker was there and fluid looked pretty clean and actually overfilled? The wrecker driver suggested perhaps the pump was working which can cause it to look overfilled.
