Hey everyone, I'm going to be minivan shopping soon. I'm thinking of either a Freestar or a Windstar because my father just gave me a practically brand new set of Goodyear Ultra Grip winter tires on rims with lug nuts from his Taurus that he just sold. The only minivan these rims fit is a Freestar or Windstar, which is fine. I've driven a 2000 Windstar as a company vehicle a few years ago, and it was not the most reliable, but not that bad either. When it comes to used vehicles, I don't think anything is perfect. Plus, the Fords tend to depreciate quicker, which is a good thing for me when I'm buying one.
From reading this forum, it seems like the Freestar has a better (though not perfect) reliability records than the Windstar. My problem is that I have enough for an older Windstar, but would need to save up for another month or two (or maybe a few more months) in order to afford a Freestar. Is it worth waiting a bit? If so, any particular model, features, year, etc to avoid or look for? From what I can tell, the newer the better... so maybe a base model 2006?
Thank you in advance for any and all suggestions.
Oh, I will post a similar question in the Windstar forum to see what Windstar owners have to say. Hope that's OK.
