Ford Freestar The Ford Freestar is a solid, highly capable minivan that performs well and offers all the latest safety features. Much of the Freestar's structure and design came from the Windstar it replaced. Windstar offered class-leading safety and solid performance for its time. Default Clock Backlight Problem

I do a lot of complaining about my Monterey, but there are some things I like which are redeeming factors for me. The sexy analogue clock instead of the normal plain old digital that the Monterey's have and some upscale Freestars I think is a real nice touch.

HOWEVER, as if to rub salt into sore wounds with all the problems I've had, guess what. The backlight of my clock stopped lighting tonight! I can no longer see it in the dark. Is it a bulb that can easily be changed? A fuse? Anyone have any help?

I don't know about the Freestar radio but I believe that the light in most head units is not repairable.

The light is repairable, I did it. It takes a lot of patience to remove the clock/vent panel to get to the clock. I don't have an exact procedure other than use a screwdriver and a cloth around the tip to prevent marring the panel. Once it's off, the bulb just twists in, like a turn signal bulb. I too was annoyed when it burned out, and just had to fix it. The bulb is like $9 thru the dealer, but I do recall seeing on some Ford forum that there is a VW compatible part for like $3. Good luck!
