Ford Freestar The Ford Freestar is a solid, highly capable minivan that performs well and offers all the latest safety features. Much of the Freestar's structure and design came from the Windstar it replaced. Windstar offered class-leading safety and solid performance for its time. Default gas mileage 2004 Freestar

Hi,
I own an 04' freestar with 4.2L engine and have been getting very bad gas mileage for around town. A trip to Florida was 22 and 18 on highway. Around town I experimented between fill ups and drove very slowly from stops and slowed down well before I had to come to a stop and the mileage came to 12.3. Normal mixed driving results range from 10 to 11 mpg taken by actual gas usage and not the computer est. which displays much worse. This is after the vechicle has been broken in with about 13K on it.
My full size dodge conversion van with a 318 ci engine gets 13 with fairly aggressive stops and starts around town.
I took it to the dealer and was told if the engine light isn't on there is nothing wrong and there is nothing they can do.
Does everyone have similar gas mileage?

22 MPG on the highway is the best you can expect of this vehicle. The 4.2 is a large thirsty engine. I just received a company issued 2007 Freestar with the 4.2, and am averaging 16-18 MPG in mixed driving. It is still not broken-in, I expect it will improve, slightly.

same here. I have a 05 cargo van with the 4.2 and the gas milage is awful. It doesent have a trip computer but i usually get 500-550 per tankful. The tank holds 100 liters . My 05 f 150 has a 114 liter tank and goes 745 per tank. Amazing that a 4 door four wheel drive pickup can get better gas milage than a mini van. No complaints on the van however. It has tons of power and has been a very reliable vechile so far. I have to trade it in soon on a 2007 and am hoping to get another one if there are any left
