Ford Freestar The Ford Freestar is a solid, highly capable minivan that performs well and offers all the latest safety features. Much of the Freestar's structure and design came from the Windstar it replaced. Windstar offered class-leading safety and solid performance for its time. Freestar is the highest quality minivan it has ever built.

Default Sudden hesitation while driving my 2005 Freestar with 55,000 kilometers

I learned from my Ford mechanic that there's a design flaw in the 2005 Freestar. Apparently the firewall is poorly design causing water / moisture to enter the PCM (engine's computer). And when that happens, the engine can stutter or stall. Ford is aware of the issue and will fix it under warranty, as they did for me. BUT......

This still didn't solve my stuttering / hesitation problem (this after having brought the car to the dealer twice). The mechanic that did the work above test drove the car and was shocked to discover that the engine actually was turning itself off and on. Soon thereafter he plugged in a "black box" to try and diagnose the problem, and it worked: problems with the MAS Sensor (Manifold Air Sensor). He also discovered that the air filter had been improperly installed (back in the Summer of 2006). Properly installing the filter didn't eliminate the problem, but replacing the Sensor did.......free of charge (under warranty).
