Ford Freestyle The Ford Freestyle's roofline stands at 68 inches off the ground, and Ford has declined to put a label on it, either SUV or sedan. Keeping the Freestyle tall and offering all-wheel-drive seems to be attactive to non-SUV and non-Sedan car owners, and the Freestyle comes with low ground clearance, unibody construction, independent suspension and a overhead cam engine.

As far as I know, the only source is Ford (Motorcraft). I believe the fluid itself is made in Germany. Your local Ford dealer should be able to get it for you. I shopped around for the best price and ordered mine online from:

Team Ford Parts Online- Ford OEM Parts at a discount

I also order my parts from:

Fast Parts Network - Home

Silver State Ford Parts (Formerly DIRECTFORDPARTS.COM)Genuine Ford Truck Parts Lincoln Mercury Parts OEM Ford Parts and Accessories

and I have seen that Amazon may carry this fluid (free shipping).

Amazon.com: Motorcraft XT7QCFT CV Chain Type Transmission Fluid: Automotive

That price would be per quart.

2 quick suggestions: first, draining the fluid and changing the filter only empties a little over 1/2 of the fluid in the CVT. After I did the drain/filter change, I drove it for a couple of days and did another drain and fill (obviously, no filter change). By now I have about 8 qts of new fluid versus 5.5 or so. Seems like a good idea.

Doing just a drain and fill, I put the car up on ramps, thinking that 'tilting' the car up would drain a little more fluid. I think I was right--I got nearly 6 qts. (after cooling) out doing it this way.

Lastly, when you order the fluid, I'd strongly suggest ordering a new drain plug! I stripped the T40 after the first fluid drain and it was a bear to get off (I ended up cramming a 6mm Allen in there and was able to break it free). An aluminum T40 bolt seems pretty silly in this application. Obviously, Ford must feel the same way! The replacement bolt was a steel 6mm Allen head.

Did CVT fluid change with help of info here. Paid $126 for 6 qt fluid and filter with my 25% Ford employee discount. Vehicle was 2005 fwd with 60K miles in Mi. Filter was pretty black and glad I changed it. The drain plug torx stripped and had to notch with cut off saw to unscrew. Maybe its not a #40 torx? The hp filter housing torx bolts seemed to be #27 and not #25. Still I had to drill one head off one. I replaced them with allen head bolts. I have a 2009 TX too but I like CVT trans better and its noticably better on fuel.
