Ford FreestyleThe Ford Freestyle's roofline stands at 68 inches off the ground, and Ford has declined to put a label on it, either SUV or sedan. Keeping the Freestyle tall and offering all-wheel-drive seems to be attactive to non-SUV and non-Sedan car owners, and the Freestyle comes with low ground clearance, unibody construction, independent suspension and a overhead cam engine.
The car is a 2007 Freestyle with 75,000 miles. It has been well maintained, recently it has started revving up bad when you turn the wheel or shift from drive to reverse or revers to drive. It is all you can do to hold it in a parking lot. Now the wrench light has come on. We had it checked prior to that light coming on and they found no faults. What could be the issue. Thanks in advance for any and all advice.
Go ahead and have them check again now that the wrench light is on.It really could be several things,if the check engine light iso there is a code related to it even if there scanner doesnt pick it up,you will just have to try another scanner or place to do it.
that sure sounds a lot like the throttle body problems some folks were having. I'd have the code pulled at your local auto parts place if you don't have a code reader.
If it is related to the TB, I'd disconnect the negative terminal on the battery (to reset the ECU and to protect the throttle position sensor while you're manipulating the butterfly valve), then pull the air intake hose off in front of the throttle body, spray some throttle body cleaner on the plate and on a rag, wipe off the plate (front and back) and the bore. It takes some pressure to move the butterfly valve, but give it a good cleaning.
If you see a big ring of carbon buildup on the bore and the butterfly valve, that well could be the culprit.
So far, it seems if you have this issue and go to the dealer, along with a TB code, the immediate course of action is to replace the throttle body--particularly problematic since Ford won't have the available for quite some time.
No guarantees that it, but that's a semi-educated internet diagnosis....
