Ford Freestyle The Ford Freestyle's roofline stands at 68 inches off the ground, and Ford has declined to put a label on it, either SUV or sedan. Keeping the Freestyle tall and offering all-wheel-drive seems to be attactive to non-SUV and non-Sedan car owners, and the Freestyle comes with low ground clearance, unibody construction, independent suspension and a overhead cam engine.

Default Does your car surge or buck?

I have a new 2006 AWD with about 6000 on it. At between 2300 and 2500 RPMs, especially when going up a hill, the car bucks or surges mildly. It almost feels like a misfire from a bad spark plug, but I know that is not the problem. I'm pretty sure it is in the transmission. So much for the "Smooth performance of the CVT". Anybody else having similar issues?

Thanks

I had similar but worse issues with my '05 AWD. The wrench light came on the dash and rpm's would fluxuate drastically. They diagnosed it as an incorrectly installed filter box. Engine was getting too much air. I have had similar problems since but new dealer unable to witness or diagnose. I have felt like it was in the tranny also. I am coming up on 36,000 miles and am quite worried.

I think you can buy the extended Ford warranty at any point up to the 36000 miles. You might check it out. Also, the drivetrain warranty is 50K, I believe?

I believe that since you brought this problem to your dealer's attention before hitting 36000 miles they will still have to repair it after the warranty expires. Don't quote me on it, though.

Be careful about wasting your money on extended warranties. You have to have all maintenance documented and receipts to prove that all requirements are met otherwise it will void your warranty regardless!!! I looked into buying an extended warranty because of my transmission messing up and I spoke with someone at Ford (a friend of my cousin) and he told me that the catch is the warranty won't generally cover due to the owner not maintaining the vehicle properly or not being able to prove anything.
