Ford Freestyle The Ford Freestyle's roofline stands at 68 inches off the ground, and Ford has declined to put a label on it, either SUV or sedan. Keeping the Freestyle tall and offering all-wheel-drive seems to be attactive to non-SUV and non-Sedan car owners, and the Freestyle comes with low ground clearance, unibody construction, independent suspension and a overhead cam engine.

So, Ford called me yesterday, asked me if I got my car out of the shop and if it was running ok. I said yes and the guy thanked me and was going to hang up. I said, "wait, what about the complaint I filed?" He went on to tell me that now that it is fixed and out of the shop the issue is resolved. I said what about next time this happens? Long story short and a lot of yelling both by him and me his answer is that I should buy an extended warranty. I said I'm not giving another dime to Ford. He told me that all ford parts are covered by a 12mo/12,000 mile warranty so once my warranty is up that part would be covered. I asked what happens if it goes out past that, like 13 months or 13,000 miles....his answer, it would not be covered. I called the manager at the shop it had been at, who is very nice and sympathetic and he said that Ford no longer covers parts like that, once the warranty is up ...there's no warranty period.

Now, this morning we go out to the garage and there's some kind of fluid all over underneath the car. So now my husband had to drive it 28 miles back to the shop, (the dealership told him to go ahead and drive it up). They think it's transmission fluid.

I honestly am so sick of this I about can't stand it.

It sounds like your problems are due to bad service.

Please remember that all Ford Dealership are independently owned and Ford Corporate can do nothing about "back shop" service.

You might want to consider that extended service plan. Just make certain it is the Ford ESP and then you can take it to any Ford Dealer anywhere (i.e. not THAT place !)

This is the second ford dealership/shop it's been to. I don't think it's the mechanics, it's the car.

As far as the extended warranty, there's no way I'm giving Ford another penny. I paid them around 24,000 for a car and look what it's gotten me. I shouldn't have to buy an extended warranty because they can't get this issue resolved. I obviously got a bad car. I shouldn't have to worry when I'm pulling out with my kids in the car whether or not it's going to move forward in time.

I agree-- don't buy the extended warranty-- they are a waste of money.

I am of the same opinion-- the Freestyle is a bad car. I got off the phone with ford customer care this morning trying to convince them that they need to buy my car back before it surged into something. I have the opposite problem you have-- mine goes when it shouldn't. . .

Factory extended warranties are not a bad invesrment by any means 1 major repair and it pays for itself. So unless you pay cash or finance for less than the base warranty period they are worth there weight in gold for the piece of mind if nothing else.

You spend $1600 for something that covers what normally doesn't break, and if it does, then it has a deductible, and they will not cover it unless your maintenance records are near-perfect. The warranty is a SERVICE AGREEMENT, and manufacurers make as much money off of them as they do the car sales. That's why financial experts who are worth their salt advise you to stay away, and you get 15 offers per week on outside companies trying to sell you one.

Don't buy the extended warranty.
