Ford Fusion The Ford Fusion is an excellent choice among midsize sedans and should not be overlooked. The Fusion was introduced as an all-new vehicle for 2006 and it's a superb car. It handles well, looks purposeful, it's comfortable, and it delivers good value. Furthermore, the all-wheel-drive Ford Fusion extremely stable on wet pavement.

I have about 33,000 on mine and have had it about 3 months. I get around 24 mpg. It's a V6 SEL.

That's 11,000 per month.
That's 99.9% highway and that's actually mileage that I got on highways.
Right now I have almost 11K, 3 oil changes, and same gas mileage, 16-17MPG.
Mostly driving is in city (average 17 MPH) to and from work.
But still 16-17 MPG is really very, very disappointing.

I also have Mazda protégé. On sticker when I bought Mazda they said 26-29 city and 33-34 highways.
I got 26MPG under exactly same condition compare with Ford Fusion (to & from work).
Now, somebody will say, OK… two drivers, two driving habits, two different driving conditions, etc.
I tried to switch cars. Exactly same.
I know those two cars can’t compare overall.
But how come that from Mazda I have sticker fuel consumption and from Ford I can’t even get close???
And it’s not only those two cars; previously I had Blazer, Pathfinder, Corolla…..
From every car I got sticker MPG. Why? Different testing or what?

Overall, very, very nice car (Fusion).
Only very, very (and 100 times) very disappointing MPG average.

My '07 V6 SE only has 2,000 miles on it, so it's not even broken in yet, and I get 17 MPG city and 26 MPG highway. It's great, but I really wish the hybrid had come out this year like it was supposed to so I could have gotten one!

27k on the odometer. average combined milage is 23-24 which is about 50/50 highway city. On road trips I get 27-30. not bad for a v6 but I just got out from under a v8 Expedition.

I just picked up my new '08 Fusion SEL with a 3.0 V6 day before yesterday. With 386 miles on the clock, it appears that I'm getting 32 MPG at 60 MPH. 30 MPG at 65 MPH and 28.7 MPG at 70 MPH. All of these numbers are averages and without the air conditioner on.

Today with AC on at 70 MPH, my new '08 SEL got an average of 26.3 MPG for 128 miles.

Your numbers are very close to what I see with my 08 SE V6. I probably drive 85% highway (1/2 of the highway at 65 and half 70), and am very steady at 29.5 combined. With the air on, it'll drop into the mid 28 area.

The factory fills the crankcase with 5W20 and that is what is recommended when you changed the oil. Synthetic, semi-synthetic or natural oil, it does not matter. (Full synthetic will get a tad bit better fuel economy, but probably not enough to justify the cost of the oil.)

Oil change interval, by the book, is 7,500 (unless you drive in severe conditions).

Just do it !
