Ford Fusion The Ford Fusion is an excellent choice among midsize sedans and should not be overlooked. The Fusion was introduced as an all-new vehicle for 2006 and it's a superb car. It handles well, looks purposeful, it's comfortable, and it delivers good value. Furthermore, the all-wheel-drive Ford Fusion extremely stable on wet pavement.

Question Ford Fusion V6 SE MPG

Hi guys,

Can somebody tell me about fuel consumption on SE V6 Fusion models.
I have one almost two months, overall I love it. Only what makes me worry is MPG. I can’t get over 15 MPG. After filling tanks and counting it is actually 16 MPG.
Some guys told me that engine needs at lest 4-5K to start getting sticker (21 city, 29 highways).

Thanks

I can attest to this. My SEL is now getting a steady 19-20 mpg now at about 3800 miles. It was very disapointing milage at first (16mpg).

No worries, on top off break-time you will also have a heavier oil typically SAE30.

How bout them Fusions though? Just test drove one today. Pretty impressed with what you get for about 23K. I cant stand just having D and L on the 6 speed auto. I guess having tiptronics would bump the price up a bit. Still have to drive a Mazda 6 and maybe a Audi A6 before I make up my mind. It is looking like the bang for the buck right now is the fusion though.

Cheers,
-MO

The MPG figure on your dash is the average calculated since your last "reset". I have also had low figures when driving in traffic or in the red light district. If you get back on the highway, the number will slowly come back up. Over the past few days, in moderate traffic mixed with some highway, I have been averaging about 22MPG.

You must also consider that any official test was probably done with the AC off and the windows up.

I recently took a trip from Atlanta to Greensboro in my fusion SEL V6 and got 26.1 mpg going and 25.7 coming back. I did some city driving while there. This was about 3 weeks ago. Right now I'm showing 23 mpg in mixed driving. I have about 9000 miles on it.

let me say if u really want good gas mileage get the 2.3L, i kno its a 4 banger an has a lil less power but its quick. i do mainly city driving and maybe a couple of miles on the intersate but i have been getting around 27.5 MPG and im only at 3000 miles. the sticker calls for 23 - 27 mpg city, but hey its all in how u drive

I can attest to this. I bought a 4 banger 3 weeks ago. I tried out the v6 for a week-end and thought it was a little thirsty. Then when I tried out the four banger and I was sold. That little mazda 2.3 will scoot in the fusion. I'm at 1300 miles right now and getting 26 mpg in mixed driving running the a/c a lot. I love this car!!!!!!!!

12k on my SEL V6 and we average about 22 mpg overall. Got 29mpg going from seattle to disney land and that was crusing with 4 people and 75plus mph the whole way. Pretty good milage for a car that will get up and go when you want it to

Just thought I'd post an update on my fusion. Getting ready to roll over to 10,000 miles and not one problem yet. I ordered a k&n air filter and put it in and got 31.5 mpg on a trip to the beach. I now get 27.1 mpg in mostly city driving in the mountians of north carolina. My son is getting ready to buy a new ford edge, same platform as the fusion. The 5 speed auto shifts like a dream. I was worried about not being able to lock the shifter in a lower gear around all the mountians but unless you touch the gas the auto will hold the car back down the hills. Still loving this car.
