Ford Fusion The Ford Fusion is an excellent choice among midsize sedans and should not be overlooked. The Fusion was introduced as an all-new vehicle for 2006 and it's a superb car. It handles well, looks purposeful, it's comfortable, and it delivers good value. Furthermore, the all-wheel-drive Ford Fusion extremely stable on wet pavement.

Question Ford Fusion 2007 - Coughs during startup

Hi

I bought the Ford Fusion 2007 SE V6 AWD, been running good with no problems so far.
It has run for 5000+ miles and still running.

The only concern I have is the startup noise (more like a caugh), when I start the car. which happens occassionaly after long idle hours (say 10-12 hours).

But I cannot recreate the problem immediately, the next time it happens will only be after the car stays idle for 10-12 hours.

I haven't been to the service center yet, cos of personal commitments.

Any help./ suggestions are welcome.

I will be glad to hear a solution.

Thanks in advance.

Default 2007 Ford Fusion - Coughs during startup.

I'm sorry to hear about your concern with your Fusion. I'm not aware of any general problems with a startup noise. Also, I've been monitoring several sites and I've not seen that concern mentioned on other threads. I would recommend that you take your Fusion to the dealership for an evaluation. They would have the right resources and be in the best position to assist you.

Mine does the exact same thing. If it sits for a bit (12 hours or more also),it makes what seems like a very fast cranking of the starter motor. I have 2600 miles on it and will mention it when I bring it in for service.

Default Probably a processor update?

Hey

The same problem was reported on another forum

Jerky Trans?? - Ford Fusion Forum (home)

And he got it fixed by the dealer. They just updated the processor.

May be this will fix ours too? :-)

Good luck

I checked that post. It dealt with a transmission lurching problem, not the start up issue we seem to be experiencing. I am going to the dealer for my first oil change tomorrow, so I will see what they say.

Default Any improvements after the oil change?

Hey jhamil

Did Ford service make any updates on the Microprocessor?
Did it get fixed?

Thanks

My fusion V6 sel now has 49,800 miles on it and i had the same complaint that on start up it would cough now and then, well at about 30,000 miles my transmission started to slip a little bit only when full throttle and now it does it all the time and it is getting worse everyday well my problem is if i go to the dealer they will charge me a arm and a leg to fix this about 3,000 dollars because im not in waranty anymore so if you your fusion coughs on start up get it checked out and tell me what it is, thanks

Default My 1st service

Finally I got free time to go to the Ford service. Good that they are open on Saturdays.
Will be giving it for oil change/ service this week. I see the problem has aggrevated, the rpm stays high after the startup until I change the gears.
Now the problem is recreatble too.

Hopefully they fix it.

Default Crazy Ford Service

When they heard the problem they stated that its common in all the Fords.
That's really crazy. I inisisted them to check the vehicle after 10 hrs.
They have agreed to monitor, but they are pretty sure that its common all the Ford fusion.
