Default 66 Galaxie dash pad cap help

I bought a 2 piece dash cap and installing it isn't as simple as I thought. I'm hoping to find someone that has installed one.

The problem is that it's a 2 piece design that needs to be glued down. Although I'm sure that there's some trimming required I still haven't figured out if the small pod should go on first with the long dash piece on top or the other way around.

I've tried one way, then the other and neither seems to be just right. Anyone know?

Default dash pad cap

I am installing one right now on a 65 galaxie. I am installing the long pad first and then the pod. I have a convertible and have the luxury of having the windshield out, because it was cracked, and all the trim removed. I was told by someone who has installed these to use liquid nails instead of the silicone. He said that the silicone gets to hot on the dash and can loosen. The pod is going to need some trimming along with the cap in order to get a good fit. I am using a x-acto knife to trim around defroster vents and screw holders. hope this helps

That's pretty much how I'm installing mine too. I installed the long piece this weekend and used a good all weather adhesive that I got from home depot to use with my caulking gun. I had to weight down the best I could until it was set, it kept trying to buckle. Now this week I'll trim up the pod for the best look and set it in place.
