Ford Galaxie The Ford Galaxie has effortless V8 performance, bulletproof mechanicals and great value make 30-year old Galaxie increasingly desirable with true-blue collectors. Size has everything to do with the on-going appeal of these cars. Although the newest are now more than 30 years old, a well-maintained Galaxie offers comfort and performance to rival cars half its age.

Default 63 289 aod

I a newbie and I have a 63 galaxie 500 with a 289 and cruise-o-matic 3 speed and I would like to put an aod from an 80s or 90s ford car or truck. I am looking for a 5 bolt adapter. Any help or info would be appreciated.

I THINK that the 5 bolt bell housing for a C4 will fit this transmission, but even if it does, you are looking for a hens tooth.

If you will google something like: "C4 bell housing" or "5 bolt C4 bellhousing" you will find a site that shows the pictures of the various bellhousings and the transmissions that they fit.

I have a 64 with a 289/C4 and in spite of the fact that I hate automatic transmissions and am a manual transmission person, find the C4 a very nice transmission for this car/engine combination. I also am not interested in changing the originality of my car.

In this application, the AOD would offer fuel savings(assuming that's what you're after) only if you run it long highway runs. Even then, how much fuel can you buy with the money you will have tied up in the swap and how much do you drive the car?

My $0.02,
