Not sure about the backspace but car is not lowered.I will probably go with the 15x6 to be on the safe side.

FWIW I have 15x7 Dodge heavy duty cop car rims on my Galaxie. No clearance problems with the factory drums or the '77-'79 LTDII/T-bird/Cougar disc brakes up front. Never measured the back space,you could probably look them up. they were from mid '80's Diplomat police package cars.
235x60s up front, 255x60s rear.
I cut 1/2 or 1/4 coil off the front springs, it's only slightly noticeably lower then stock, at full lock and just a hair before full lock the inside tire will rub the edge of the tread on the forward part of the fender lip when going over a slight bump like the end of the driveway.

Heres a pic.I just installed them.Went with the 15x7s,4 1/4 backspace.No problems.

That looks sharp!
My first car was an LTD ('67) hard top the exact same nightmist blue/black vinyl top.
