Ford GalaxieThe Ford Galaxie has effortless V8 performance, bulletproof mechanicals and great value make 30-year old Galaxie increasingly desirable with true-blue collectors. Size has everything to do with the on-going appeal of these cars. Although the newest are now more than 30 years old, a well-maintained Galaxie offers comfort and performance to rival cars half its age.
Aight I'm bout to put some true duals on my 63 galaxie eventually when work picks up I'm gonna pull the powertrain out and beef it up. Now question while I'm buildn the powertrain should I take the body to a shop to get it restored while I'm doin the powertrain? Or should I keep the body as is for now and drop the powertrain in and blow some doors of some of these posers as a 4 door sedan sunday church grandpa sleeper?!?!? I was also thrown around the idea of getn the interior and body done just leave all the chrome off and keep the body a primer gray for the meantime? And play around with for a while then getn it sprayed.
You are doing what I did over the summer wiht my 67 Galaxie I only need to go through the body one more time. I have removed all side trim and put it on primer. I used the hotrod flatz to give it some color until I dedicated to paint her Pewter metallic like on the 06 mustangs
My advice would be to get all the mechanical work finished before thinking about body work and paint. You are bound to slip once in a while and scratch the sheet metal. Once you have the performance you want, then worry about weather you want to go with a paint job.
I agree with Rick start on the mechanical and get that all perfect, then work on interior and THEN do the body work.
If your so inclined to make it look better then you can sand it down adn prime it if neccesary. I did this with my 67 since it had a lot of surface rust I wanted to stop and the factory paint was in pretty bad shape. I just removed all the chrome, sanded down the entire body to get rid of any rust etc adn then put it in a good primer to seal it up (don't use rattle can, buy a HVLP spray gun and shoot it.) I didn't do any body work but you would be suprised at how much primer hides and it looks pretty decent. I may never paint mine now LOL
it all comes down to how much you're willing to spend, and what you'll be doing with it most of the time. daily driver, or weekend warrior...
