Ford LTD The LTD designation is considered by some an abbreviation of "Luxury Trim Decor" and by others as a limited body style classification for the Galaxie. There is evidence that it originally stood for "Lincoln Type Design." It was to be called the Galaxie 500 LTD, in reference to the introduction of the Chevrolet Caprice and the similar Dodge Monaco and Polara.

Default Vin#

Hi, First timer here I have a VIN# ?? my dad has a 1970 LTD Brougham w/429cid and the VIN number is only 11 characters long. When I try to look up info on it I keep getting the error message of VIN number must be 17 characters long. I have double check both VIN number locations on the car and they match, the VIN# is OJ62K169483. I think the J represents the place of assembly the K is the body type ? the rest I don't know. Anyone out there with any info please help!

Hi oldschl, welcome to the forum.

In the early 1980's the US NHTSA adopted the current 17 digit system. As you noted this system does not match your 1970 model.

Take a look at this 1969 VIN standard for Ford vehicles, it appears to match your requirement:

Hope this helps.
