Ford LTD The LTD designation is considered by some an abbreviation of "Luxury Trim Decor" and by others as a limited body style classification for the Galaxie. There is evidence that it originally stood for "Lincoln Type Design." It was to be called the Galaxie 500 LTD, in reference to the introduction of the Chevrolet Caprice and the similar Dodge Monaco and Polara.

Question whats wrong with my 86 ltd?

I have an 86 ltd 3.8 v6, the belt kept coming off, after buying 3 belts @ $23 per belt, I decided to see whats up. I noticed the bracket holding the smog pump is broken right where the bottom bolt goes, so it sways side to side a bit. So I rigged that problem up with clamps and vice grips to hold it secure, put a new belt on and took off. The car died after losing power over the coarse of about 3 miles. I checked everything, noticed that the ground wire going to the alternator was really loose, prolly hit it while fixing my smog pump prob. But it was also corroded a bit, so i cut the corroded part that connects to the bolt on the rear of the alternator off, stripped the wire a bit and fastened it directly to the bolt with a nut. Jump started it and went good other than a very slight grinding sound from the smog pump. I watched it run to make sure the belt was staying attached and noticed that the smog pump is throwing a small spark from the smog pump to the bracket its attached to. Not sure why its doing it now while it hasnt done it before. And i didnt think the smog pump had any electrical parts to be holding a charge in the first place. but hey, im not much more than a half assed fix my own vehicle by whatever means possible type of guy. and this is all over a 24 hour period. so is it good now to take the 135 mile trip back home this weekend?
