Ford LTDThe LTD designation is considered by some an abbreviation of "Luxury Trim Decor" and by others as a limited body style classification for the Galaxie. There is evidence that it originally stood for "Lincoln Type Design." It was to be called the Galaxie 500 LTD, in reference to the introduction of the Chevrolet Caprice and the similar Dodge Monaco and Polara.
Well I've been busy with my old Ford lately. I've replaced the distributor cap and rotor, new 2 gauge battery cables, new tires, new tie rod and idler arm, front end alignment, brake master cylinder gasket (brakes working a lot better)! Now all that's left is a new carburetor, i gave up on that re-manufactured carb from champion. I am now getting a carb from national which is being made to my carb tag specs. The best part it's free (kinda) because the champion carb was a piece of junk Autozone is replacing it under warranty. It's going to be here Friday and after that I expect the car to make it through this winter with no problems. It's already running like a new car and is getting 2-3 mpg more than it did. Also is the plastic part of the snorkel that feeds fresh air to the breather necessary? mine is shot and now off the car and I can't find a new one so I'm wondering if it is even necessary? Thanks!
Well got the new national carb on and it needed a couple of adjustments to run perfect. Just for fun I decided to take the champion carb apart before I returned it and see what was wrong with it and I was amazed to find that the little clip that holds the needle valve to the float was missing and the air/fuel mix screws were backed out 6.5 turns!!! I was amazed that it was even running let alone as well as it was! Built Ford tough I guess!!!
