I work at a used car dealership, and just yesterday we picked up a white LTD from the auction. It was really cheap. We put it on a trailer, and I drove a Honda back. We got it to the lot, and fired it up. Our Mechanic, Morris, found steam coming out of the exhaust. He says it might be a blown head gasket, it might be a cracked head. Otherwise, it could use a tuneup, but runs decent.
There is another part to this story. The body and interior are darn near perfect. There are a few dent and such, but this thing is in better shape than my '95 Aerostar. The interior is clean, although a stupid thing has happened. The needle has fallen off of the speedometer, so I may need to take the cover off and stick it back on. It may have turned over, but the speedometer reads just over 20,000, though as clean as it it could pass for having only 20,000 miles.
I am taking a strong intrest in this car, although I don't know squat about changing head gaskets. Another good reason I am liking this car is because my boss would only charge me $350 bucks.
Can anybody direct me on where I can find instrustions on how to change a head gasket? I suppose tomorrow I can check out a chilton's guide, but I was hoping maybe to catch someone here who has had to deal with the same problem.
Thanks,
Aaron
