Ford LTD The LTD designation is considered by some an abbreviation of "Luxury Trim Decor" and by others as a limited body style classification for the Galaxie. There is evidence that it originally stood for "Lincoln Type Design." It was to be called the Galaxie 500 LTD, in reference to the introduction of the Chevrolet Caprice and the similar Dodge Monaco and Polara.

Question Ignition / Door Keys

I don't have any keys for a 1973 LTD.

Is the door and ignition key the same, while the trunk and glovebox are the same?

A local locksmith said that I could take the lock out of the door and bring to her and she can make a door/ignition key. Does this sound like the best route to take?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Borg Warner does sell trunk and door locks for some models, bwdbrand.com is their website. Your local locksmith sounds like a wiser more affordable choice though.

For the record....

I took out the drivers door lock cylinder. It wasn't too hard. I had to remove the door panel, unclip the lock rod from the cylinder, and remove the clip that holds the cylinder in place.

The locksmith was able to make the key from the code on the cylinder. It cost me $16.05 to get two copies made.

Now I have to do the same thing with the cylinder in the glove box.
