Ford Maverick The first Ford Maverick was a rear wheel drive compact car that was built from 1970 to 1977 in the USA. The original model was a 2-door sedan priced at $1,995. The Maverick was designed to be inexpensive and easy to build, and easily repaired by shade tree mechanics. The Ford Maverick was styled with a long hood, fastback roof, and short deck on a 103" wheelbase.

Default PCV Valve

Hi. When I went to get a new grommet for the rocker arm cover for my 200 in-line 6 engine on my 71 Mav, it was suggested that I also get a new PCV valve. So I put it in and my engine stalled at every stop. Upon pulling the valve out of the r.a. cover, the engine no longer stalled, but I found that my idle speed was very slow. Should I have pulled the new PCV off the intake hose? I fortunately was able to pick the old one out of the trash and put it back in and the engine seems about the same, although the idle was a bit rougher than before--but then again, it might just be cold, since I've not taken it on the road. Details: The new one was (I believe) an authentic Ford part made of plastic and the old one was metal from a parts store. Was the new PCV valve the correct one to put in and that since the engine compression is so low it didn't work properly? Or was it either a defective pcv or the wrong one for the car? Thank you.

If the old valve was (is) leaking and the idle was adjusted for it while it was leaking then you need to re-adjust the idle (speed and mixture) when you install the new one.
PCV valves should be replaced yearly because there is no way to tell when they go bad.
(Even a bad PCV valve will rattle when you shake it)
